Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNO

TNO is a Dutch non-profit research institute, hosting >3000 professionals and performs research on socially important topics including Industry, Healthy living, Safety and Security. TNO makes scientific knowledge applicable in order to strengthen the innovative capacity of business and government. The research group Risk Analysis for Products in Development (RAPID) investigates the quality and safety of chemical substances, food ingredients/products, drugs and nanoparticles. Traditionally, research at RAPID has taken place within (inter)national legislative frameworks but increasingly focuses on earlier process phases, e.g. development of new ingredients and products (new protein sources in food and drugs). RAPID combines thorough knowledge of the field of risk analysis and statistics with practical experience of innovative experimental research, developing integrated strategies enabling optimal prediction of the health risks for humans and minimising the need for animal testing. TNOs Food allergy program focusses on food allergy risk assessment, risk management, allergenicity prediction of novel proteins and risk/benefit analysis.
